ABOUT THE PROJECT
RECONSTRUCTION OF THE HISTORICAL HERITAGE BUILDING
A single-story building constructed at the end of the 19th century is located on Kargareteli Street, part of the Institute of Parasitology land plot. The street was once known for its gardens established by German colonists, which is why it was marked as ,,Lower Garden'' on the 1876 map of Tbilisi and simply as ,,Garden'' on the 1900 map. From 1910 to 1923 it was called N. Pirogov Street and since then it has been named Ia Kargareteli Street. The street is an interesting blend of buildings influenced by European architecture.

Despite certain changes, the street retains its characteristics formed in the late 19th and early 20th centuries: a moderately scaled horizontal development with strong architectural accents. The research building and many of the surrounding structures are designated as cultural heritage sites and represent not only significant examples of the neighborhood but also in whole of Georgia’s secular architecture.

The appropriate development of the former territory of the Institute of Parasitology on the one hand, preserves the architectural and historical value of the historical periods imprinted on the area. On the other hand, it suggests restoring and highlighting the features of the German colony in alignment with the original Samoilovich residence.
